Super Energy Efficient Shell Homes in Sheffield
SIPS@Clays was commissioned by Sustainable Shell Homes to help bring to fruition a brand new concept in new home buying and self building.
The new development in Meersbrook, Sheffield, comprises of seven, three storey Structural Insulated Panel (SIPs) homes which have been built to weather tight shell stage only. The highly efficient shell homes have achieved an outstanding airtightness test result of 1.1 m3/(h.m2) making them exceptionally energy efficient.
Constructed using the Kingspan TEK Building System, the new homes were SIPs designed, fabricated and installed by the SIPS@Clays team and took approximately one week per house to construct on site.
SIPs construction was the perfect building solution for these high performance homes, not only in terms of the energy efficiency that SIPs offer but also their suitability for delivery to challenging plots.
Meersbrook Avenue is a very steep road making access a challenge. The SIPS@Clays used rigid vehicles for all deliveries, which would not have been possible if traditional construction had been used.
The concept of the ‘shell only’ homes gives customers the opportunity to complete the homes as self build projects, allowing them to put their own personal stamp on the home. Customers can configure their own floorplan, design and install their chosen kitchen and bathrooms and even choose their own front door.
Each home has triple glazed windows and roof windows, underfloor heating pipes already laid to the ground floor, incoming gas, electricity and water and is fully connected to the surface water and foul water system. Some of the properties also have solar panels.
